April 2024!

One of the greatest joys of sailing with all of you, is that together,  we help a HUGE  number of families  in our community. Sail Again is a small local business that was born out of the desire to help our community clothe their kids for less--and to  help others at the same time. We're NOT a franchise, and NOT a big business, we're just a bunch of Mommas trying to help each each out!  Every year, season after season, you help us donate thousands of dollars in cash and tens of thousands more in clothing and equipment to needy families here . . . and across the globe!

Where does the $$ go?

The largest recipient of our charitable donation dollars will always go to a group that is near and dear to MY heart, Cookies For Kids' Cancer. This charity funds research for childhood cancer. The decision to choose CFKC as our primary charity is personal.  I'm a cancer survivor-- so too is my Mom. We've lost several family members,  and more friends than I have room to list here, to this disease. Every single person who participates in the sail knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer. And most horribly,  I have several close friends who have children battling this wretched disease.  So, we do what we can. We fund-raise for research that can lead to better treatments and someday, a cure.

At Sail Again we help CFKC by participating with their largest Lake Norman area fundraiser--The Bake Sale. It is scheduled every year for a Saturday  in early December at Birkdale Village in Huntersville (and at several other locations across the Charlotte region) Please, please, please go out and buy something (And, gaze proudly at our name on the T-shirts; your generosity means that we've been named a sponsor every year since 2016!

In 2016 we also launched our support of  Shop With A Cop. Through this program,  one Charlotte area child was given their entire Christmas because of  YOU. We plan to continue to support this group going forward. In 2017 we grew the number of kids that we sponsored to 2!.

We also share hundreds of dollars each season with local elementary schools in Huntersville, Cornelius, and Mooresville,  and with the youth group at Huntersville Baptist Church, the home of Lydia's Loft and Lydia's Prom Closet.

Over the past 3 years  you've helped us gift more than $10,000 in cash to these awesome organizations and that doesn't count the clothes and toys! (Or the nearly 6 years worth of donations before that!)

Where do all those donations go?

Every family who shops our sale is blessed by being able to clothe their kids for less. We know that for some families who shop with us, it is the only way they can afford to give their kids the things they need. But your donated items help tons more people than just our shoppers!

Donations are shared first with several needy families and expectant mothers who we invite to "shop" our donations racks and "buy" whatever they need for free. Each season 4 or 5 families find their way to us via referrals and they shop with us this way. Honestly, this is my absolute FAVORITE time at every sail. It is amazing to witness something so small and easy for us to do, have such a huge impact on these families in such a meaningful and immediate way.

Once our families have shopped, your remaining donations are picked up and distributed to several different groups who sort them and share them in places where they can do the most good! Each season, the tagged value of all your pooled donations exceeds $10,000 and the retail value is easily 4 or 5  times that! Of course, the kids you help put a different kind of value on that warm coat, that book, that first toy, and that pair of shoes.

***** Special note!  This page is due for a BIG update! We have amazing new charity partners to shout out here: (East Lincoln Christian Ministries, Soles for Christ and Promising Pages just to name a few!) Stay tuned after the fall 2023 season for info on all these amazing charities!

Our partnerships with local non-profits mean that most of your donated items find their way to these specific places: The Pregnancy Resource Center, Lydia's Prom Closet, The South Yadkin Baptist Association, The Christian Mission of Mooresville, Lydia's Loft, Special Treasures (an organization that supports the needs of foster children in Iredell County), and mission work that supports orphans in Appalachia and Honduras.

In the Spring of 2017 we entered into a new and wonderful partnership with a mission group centered out of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius. This organization, The Advocate, works with at risk kids and their care givers to provide them the things they need that will make both an immediate and a lasting difference in their lives. Maybe it is setting up a nursery for a single Mom, maybe it is providing  a wardrobe of school clothes for a foster child, or  a car seat so that an infant can leave the hospital safely. Always, it is a resource for kids in need. We are honored to be able to help. If you would like more information on The Advocate, or any of the charities we support please contact us at sailagainlkn@yahoo.com.

So, did you do the math? In the past four years alone, that's more than $100,000 in cash, clothes, toys, books, and equipment shared with those who can really use it. I can't wait to see who we help this year! Thank you AGAIN for continuing to SAIL with us and for helping us always to "DO GOOD".
